Keeping it in the family...

In 1998, The Abingdon came under the ownership of Susannah Hannigan and her father Peter Staples. Together they created what has become one of the best loved restaurants in Kensington. In 2004 Terry Connolly took over the running of the restaurant, becoming a partner in 2007.

Together with a team that includes JD Borninkhof, Craig Delamare and Ian Jeanes, The Abingdon continues to be a wonderful place to dine, drink or meet with friends, partners and business associates providing a wonderful ambience and consistently excellent food.

Off of the high street in the beautiful borough of Kensington stands the exterior of the pubs of yesteryear, yet within these walls of painted white and tiled blue lies a family-owned restaurant and wine bar so warm in its welcome and comfortable in its interior that it is 'second home' to many of the local residents and neighbouring families that surround this wonderful entity.

The Set-up

Structurally, the Abingdon can be divided into three sections; the bar, the main restaurant and the booths. Food is served in all areas and reservations are recommended. There is seating outside though bookings cannot be taken for these seats.

You are greeted by the bar area as you walk in which, with it's ample bar menu and drinks list, provides for the casual experience and ambience.

The main restaurant can cater for parties of up to twenty-two on one table, larger parties are subject to availability and a deposit (details available upon request) is required on booking.

The Booth section is made-up of eight tables and is situated at the back of the restaurant, larger booths capable of taking parties of up-to six people.

This section is suitable for those who prefer a more intimate dining experience. They are very popular with family first-impressions, dates, anniversaries and big-time gossiping. A big hit with our celebrity clientele, the booths are slightly cut off from the main restaurant area and provide a more private area for those who require it.

" [The Abingdon] was recommended by staff at the hotel as their favorite. We found the restaurant full of area residents. (When this is the local hangout you can't go wrong.) "
